Getting married in Portugal from abroad
Planning a wedding in Portugal from another country is simpler than it looks. There are two routes, and this guide explains both, so you can choose with confidence.
Two routes, one beautiful day
A legal civil wedding here in Portugal, or a legal ceremony at home and a symbolic ceremony in our gardens. Both end the same way: with the people you love, at Quinta do Alferes.
Route 1 · Legal in Portugal
A civil wedding in Portugal, step by step
01Open the process
At a Portuguese Civil Registry Office (Conservatória do Registo Civil), or at a Portuguese consulate in your country.
02Start early
Ideally 3 to 6 months before the date: some documents, such as the certificate of capacity to marry, have a limited validity.
03Gather the documents
Apostilled and with a certified translation into Portuguese where needed. The checklist is just below.
04File from abroad
If you cannot be in Portugal to file the papers, many couples use a local representative with a power of attorney.
05Choose the spot
We choose the place in the garden with you and take care of the whole set-up.
06Celebrate
The registrar conducts the ceremony at the estate, with full legal validity.
Route 2 · Symbolic ceremony
Many couples marry legally in their own country and celebrate here. We host symbolic ceremonies in our gardens: your vows, your words, the people you love, with no paperwork in Portugal.
20 minutes
from Porto Airport, so your guests arrive easily from anywhere.
1 wedding a day
the whole estate is yours alone, from the ceremony to the last dance.
4 languages
our team speaks Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.
“Start with the date. Everything else, we plan together, from wherever you are.”
